Lets push our students

Dear all,
I am really happy to share with you all that I feel concerning this blog or teaching in general. You know when were in the training center every thing was cool for us. We concedered teaching as an easy task and we imagined that we can use technology and a lots of materials. However the circumatances of the Moroccan secondary school are not in a perfect or healthy condition. You know the place where I teach is very difficult for me and and for my students as well. Well students have never heared about some thing called English and they have no idea about England or USA. They dont know that these countries speak English. Just one student told me that he heared that English is used in UAE. So, as a teacher equiped with the last theories of ELT that requires using ICT and students based learning. Of course these theories like Michel Luis with his Lexical Approach and task based learning. Unfortuantely for my students it is hard to learn by these ways and I found myself in a tricky situation. Students are not motivated, no equipments even the student's book is not available for some and no idea about English. I sartred doing my best to make them have an idea about what is English. I went to alhoceima to buy books for them and I started teaching them using their mother tongue, but step by step I move to use English. Now my students are progressing and I will do more efforts to help them go on. Of course if you have any comments or suggestions I will be honored to read them.

  1. Hello brother Aissam! I read your article and I found it so interesting especially that it focuses on the difficulties both teachers of English and students are facing. In fact, what you said about the difficulties we - as novice teachers of English- encounter during our first years of teaching are so frustrating especially if we make a simple compraison between the "rosy image" which was drawn to us by teachers inside the CPR and by linguists such as Michael Lewis, John Wilkins and others in their theories of acquisition, learning and the teaching of learning. I just would like to say that no teacher possesses the right and suitable conditions where they can implement and experience these methods and theories. All teachers have some problems that may be equal to those you are encountering. Here, I may introduce my little experience during this year, few students are motivated to learn efficiently. They like English so much, but the problem is that they do not make efforts to learn the new language and its competencies. Only few of them do their homeworks and review at home. I may say only 2 of the students used to review and do homework before they set foot in the classroom. However. with a will to change this bad habit into a good one, I decided to stimulate( it may be punishment or rewarding) them to review and do their homeworks and it really worked successfully. In brief, do not get frustrated and lose hope; problems and difficulties do really exist, but with a high motivation and strong will you can change your students to the best.
Thanks for sharing your teaching experiences so heartly.
    Aimad from Errachidia.
